Debit Card Alerts and Protections is a debit card tool in Digital Banking that gives users more control over their debit card(s) by enabling controls and alerts. It allows users to set spending limits, request alert notifications for transactions, and block transactions at certain merchant types.
What is the difference between a control and an alert?
Controls can be used to restrict transactions based on certain parameters, whereas alerts are only notifications that a transaction has been conducted or attempted.
What are the benefits of using Debit Card Alerts and Protections?
Debit Card Alerts and Protections provide users with more control over their debit card(s). It simplifies traveling, provides tangible fraud protection, and allows users to set detailed parameters around card usage.
Where can I manage my Debit Card Alerts and Protections?
To set up and modify your alerts, open the Digital Banking app, select the account for which you want to manage your card, select the card under Card management, select Alerts and protections.
You can also add the Card management tile to your dashboard by scrolling to the bottom of the dashboard and clicking Organize dashboard.
How will I be notified of alerts with Debit Card Alerts and Protections?
Users can choose to be notified of alerts through their preferred alert channel(s), including email, SMS/text, and in-app/push notifications through the Notification settings under Alerts and protections. In-app/push notifications are a default selection but can be unselected.
Can I turn my card on and off with Debit Card Alerts and Protections?
Yes, users can switch their cards on and off at their discretion by setting the toggle to locked or active, providing peace of mind when traveling or if the card is misplaced or lost.
If I have my card locked, will my recurring transactions go through?
Yes, recurring payments/transactions will continue to be processed.
What custom controls can I set with Debit Card Alerts and Protections?
With Debit Card Alerts and Protections, users can set unique controls and alerts for each cardholder on the account. These controls include spending limits and alerts, merchant types, transaction types, and international transactions.
What are the spending limits and alerts available with Debit Card Alerts and Protections?
Debit Card Alerts and Protections allow users to set spending limits and alerts on an individual transaction limit or on a monthly spending limit basis. Then, users can choose to receive notifications about or block purchases that are over their transaction and/or monthly spending limit.
What are the merchant types available with Debit Card Alerts and Protections?
With Debit Card Alerts and Protections, users can choose to be notified about or block transactions made at certain types of merchants. These merchant types include, but are not limited to: department stores, entertainment, gas stations, grocery stores, household, personal care, restaurants, and travel.
What are the transaction types available with Debit Card Alerts and Protections?
With Debit Card Alerts and Protections, users can choose to be notified about or block certain types of transactions, which include, but are not limited to: in-store, online, mail/phone order, autopay and ATM.
Can I control international transactions with Debit Card Alerts and Protections?
Yes, users can choose to be notified about or block international transactions made out-of-country. Blocking will halt transactions using physical cards. However, online purchases will remain unaffected.
If I get a new card, do my Debit Card Alerts and Protections update automatically?
No, you will need to set up new controls and alerts for the new card in the Card management section in Digital Banking.
Can I set up alerts and controls for other card types?
You can set up Alerts and Protections on Consumer, HSA and Business debit cards. To learn about setting up alerts for credit cards, refer to the credit card FAQ page.
Where can I update my email or phone number?
To update your email or phone number, navigate to Settings in the left-hand menu, select Profile, choose the contact detail you wish to change.
How do Debit Card Alerts and Protections differ from Account alerts?
Account alerts cover all transaction types such as debit card, checks or ACH, within an account, like a checking account. Debit Card Alerts and Protections, on the other hand, are exclusively for transactions made with your debit card.
Can I set up alerts from multiple sources, and which ones are suggested?
Yes, you can combine Account alerts, Visa Purchase Alerts, and Debit Card Alerts and Protections. While each type of alert has distinct advantages, Debit Card Alerts and Protections provide more detailed information specifically for debit card transactions.
How can I modify or delete Visa Purchase Alerts I already have setup?
If you would like to modify the types of alerts you receive or the settings for your Visa Purchase Alerts, log in to the Visa Purchase Alerts(Opens in a new Window) service through the Visa website.
